Perchance You Love Another, Swear It LowA Poem by Justin GuidrozA villanelle written for Creative Writing.Perchance you love another, swear it low.
Do not let your dislike for me arise,
And we will keep going, no man must know.
The fear I feel after each nightly row,
Always hearing disgust in your soft sighs.
Perchance you love another, swear it low.
We both feel gazes as you pass and go,
Distraction of all the lonely men’s eyes,
And we will keep going, no man must know.
Each affair deals my heart a brutal blow.
You take delight in all your vicious lies.
Perchance you love another, swear it low.
Maybe our love is doomed like those of Poe,
Sometimes our love feels like a failing guise,
And we will keep going, no man must know.
So if you leave and take my heart in tow,
Remember what I say, my lovely prize:
Perchance you love another, swear it low,
And we will keep going, no man must know.
