The Love of Darkness and Light

Darkness and light are eternal lovers

but their love is doomed.

In constant struggle to destroy each other,

both need the other to live.

 

Light conquers darkness

whilst creating it.

To the shadows under a canopy,

to the piercing daggers slashing through my unlit room,

light creates darkness.

 

Darkness also conquers light,

but is nonexistent without it.

For how can something be dark

if there is no light?

 

Oh, two lovers of woe!

how I wish I could raise a candle to your love.

Even as you fight each other,

upon each other you lean.

The sunshine leans on the edge

of the sloping shadow of an umbrella.

 

Light surrounds darkness

and darkness caresses light.

Two hearts never broken by loss

for each loss brings more life

which brings more darkness.

 

I covet their eternal bonds

as mine fall into decay.

How I wish I could be a shadow

on which my lovely sunshine leans upon.

Really interesting poem, very insightful, I enjoyed reading this a lot. =)! I liked the symbolism of light and darkness to basically represent the "circle of life" (XD) and how everything pretty much balances each other out - like good and evil. :) I particularly loved the line, "The sunshine leans on the edge / of the sloping shadow of an umbrella." Lovely imagery of the sunshine right after a rainstorm... powerful. Great job with this! ^^

beautiful.........light conquers darkness, but in darkness there is light. like the sun and moon, yin and yang.............................opposites attract, like they say for lovers. to fall for someone just like you would be nice but boring, to fall for someone that u would normally hate, that is light and dark. now i will stop my babbling, i like this. it was really nice.
