Muted Words

Muted Words

A Poem by Joyce S. Greene
"

A poem about waiting for the phone to ring . . .

"

I wait, listening for so long
to hear you sing me your love song.
I dream of sweet, soft melodies
in mists of cherished memories
while I hear my phone not ringing
and a longed for voice not singing.
Whispers not heard in the silence
are my mentors in your absence.
The music of my heart's soft beat
in echoes often does repeat
the sounds of loving words once said,
the cries of passion from our bed.
In syllables of muted words
I catch the notes of joyous birds.
At the ends of unsaid phrases
I hear hymns that sing love's praises
and with pauses in expression
I compose my own translation.
But when my heart begins to sob,
its beat becoming just a throb
my doubts begin to sing alone
my sadness cries without a tone.
Should I wait for you forever,
Will we sing once more together?

Oh to be a slave for that sweet sound! I felt the anxiety and longing in your words:

In syllables of muted words
I catch the notes of joyous birds.
At the ends of unsaid phrases
I hear hymns that sing love's praises
and with pauses in expression
I compose my own translation.

It is in the silence that we suffer the most.

Hi there, I'm glad I stumbled upon this precious and bittersweet poem. It rings so true! This here especially

At the ends of unsaid phrases
I hear hymns that sing love's praises
and with pauses in expression
I compose my own translation.

Truly inspiring!

Very few things are as poetic as longing. Desire is a strong part of life and you push that in this poem. It ends with the question we all ask: Will this desire ever end? Great poem.

What a lovely, plaintive poem. It was so beautiful, I am at the loss of words, and the loss of breath. Pen on! A 100

Oh Joyce, such a sad poem but you rendered every verse so beautifully. This poem made me sigh and feel sad, but in a good way. Your words brought the emotion through just wonderfully

Thank you, word, for your very nice review. It means a lot to me.
You made another beautiful piece here Ms Joyce . I'm figuring out how you did your metering. The flow and rhythm is always there . Telling a short story and rhyming with six lines each is a little too advance for me.
Just curious about your other piece which is Dragonfly . Did you happened to used Limerick ?
