A One Word Poem for my Friend, Lydi

I recently learned of a new poetry genre - one word poems, and was inspired to write this one for my friend, Lydi, by the beauty of the many butterflies I had the privilege of seeing at the Butterfly Conservatory in Deerfield, MA. Lydi is a big fan of butterflies if you didn't already know.

Sometimes simplicity is the best thing. I think the trick to this "genre" is to find an image or subject and then relate a word back to it, and you have done that.

Thanks, Tom. The first ten characters were more than sufficient, but those last 15 finished it off perfectly. LOL Rules like that make me laugh - someone must have been having a bad hair day when he (or she) came up with that one!

I love how the butterfly looks poised and ready to take off... and it'll do just that but in a genteel and almost whimsical way. So lovely.

Thank you, rutherford. This piece was posted mainly as a gift for my friend, Lydi, who loves butterflies. Its real value is its beauty - a butterfly is a poem, in and of itself, I think. But added to that is the beauty of all the lovely comments that the photo has elicited, including your very nice words. Thank you so much for reading my work and for leaving your thoughts behind.

I agree that a picture can be a poem, and when I saw this butterfly I asked Tom to take its picture and voila, poetry was born! With all that beauty, why spoil it with mere words?
