Butterfly Wings

Butterfly Wings

A Poem by Joyce S. Greene
"

She is butterfly wings . . .

"

a life within me

but never born

she is golden sunlight

dancing on a daisy

she is butterfly wings

gracing her mother's garden

I never saw her face

nor held her in my arms

but I dream her smiles

and hear her laughter

between wakeful moments

on moonlit nights

when a part of me

still feels her deep within

and forgets the emptiness

Please don't think that I say this lightly or in jest; but this is, hands down, the absolute best poem that I have EVER read regarding a mother's feelings toward her miscarried child. Each word, each line glimmered like the sun bursting forth on a rainy day. You captured the sadness; but overwhelmingly, you captured the love that, captured for a moment, can outshine a thousand lifetimes of sadness.

I don't doubt for a moment that this really happened to you, as the words are from your heart. I can feel the heartbeat and the pulse of life within.

A dear friend of mine just suffered the same loss. I am so sorry for yours, but I have so say that she left such a memorable touch on your heart that it gave life to a beautiful, beautiful poem.

you're most welcome :)
I have goosebumps from this one, Joyce. I know what you are speaking of....I know the pain and the heartbreak. Though a child was not held in our arms, we felt it....we knew it was alive....we had dreams for it. Oh, yes, the heartbreak is powerful in this one. The imagery is exquisite. A wonderfully heartfelt write, my friend. Lydi**

very beautiful, the grief something unbearable and yet this poem is all about staying strong and not letting the pain overcome. I found this eloquent, highly moving and extremely powerful. I've miscarried although I was lucky and eventually had my own children which helped me get over it, having a child is a natural right for every women, it is something we assume will happen at some point and I feel alot of empathy for any woman who finds she is unable to have children or loses one in this way. it is truly heart-breaking.

Thank you, Jacob, for leaving me such a nice comment on my poem. Your thoughts mean a lot to me.
My brother's wife lost twins at 6 weeks. We still calculate the time, the passing of what would have been birthdays and graduations. Your words stir my soul and touch me deeply, Joyce.

What a lovely piece you've shared!

My best,
Kelly

So skilful and talent laden is your poetry muse, so sad is the theme of this beautiful piece. It talks to me of courage more than anything. I would not have what it took to write this. Bless you, my friend.
