Butterfly Wings

Butterfly Wings

A Poem by Joyce S. Greene
"

She is butterfly wings . . .

"

a life within me

but never born

she is golden sunlight

dancing on a daisy

she is butterfly wings

gracing her mother's garden

I never saw her face

nor held her in my arms

but I dream her smiles

and hear her laughter

between wakeful moments

on moonlit nights

when a part of me

still feels her deep within

and forgets the emptiness

Please don't think that I say this lightly or in jest; but this is, hands down, the absolute best poem that I have EVER read regarding a mother's feelings toward her miscarried child. Each word, each line glimmered like the sun bursting forth on a rainy day. You captured the sadness; but overwhelmingly, you captured the love that, captured for a moment, can outshine a thousand lifetimes of sadness.

I don't doubt for a moment that this really happened to you, as the words are from your heart. I can feel the heartbeat and the pulse of life within.

A dear friend of mine just suffered the same loss. I am so sorry for yours, but I have so say that she left such a memorable touch on your heart that it gave life to a beautiful, beautiful poem.

You are most welcome Joyce. Merry Christmas!
Almost a thousand views. This is really incredible. Short and in free verse style. Melancholic and sort of reflective in nature. I knew someone dear to us who wanted to have a child of their own and ended up in miscarriage. Its devastatingly painful. I thought they could never recover from their devastating setback. Yet God proved them otherwise that HE is always able.

A powerful and emotional poem. I believe woman feel and know more. Life come from their body. I like the description. Allowed the reader to feel and understand the thoughts in the poem. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

This is an eloquent, graceful poem with such sad feelings at the same time as being bright and hopeful. Can't determine the true meaning as it is not childbirth or even the loss of a child. Perhaps a metaphor of love itself?

This is splendid. Concise but so beautiful and there's a deep emotion concealed in each line. A love forever which will live forever in one's heart...especially in a mother's heart.
Great!

The flow and delicacy of this piece is quite magical. you comparing her to all things nature gives me the feeling that although she is not physically here, her spirit will live on for an eternity coinciding with the mother earth, as well as mother you. beautiful.
