SnakesA Poem by J. F. CharlestonYou come across them
At a young age I was taught
To beware of snakes Thinking it was just the serpents There's more to what I thought They're everywhere and anyone It's something to tear you down Plotting evil against you and I A snake brought down Adam and Eve Its sneaky tongues soothed The serpent wooed the prey To watch as they fell away God came and told them Let me teach you something About snakes They cross your path They seek to destroy Be wary of their intentions It's always a cruel ploy As I grew, I began to learn Most snakes are you and I They're people we trust Ones set to see us burn My dad once told me While in the hills of Wyoming Watching the pieces of his life Crumble down to dust Son, Let me teach you something About snakes They cross your path They seek to destroy Be wary of their intentions It's always a cruel ploy Snakes bite and squeeze Slither in the grass Cowards seeking for themselves Sometimes hard to see Sometimes spotted with ease Let me teach you something About snakes They cross your path They seek to destroy Be wary of their intentions It's always a cruel ploy On the ranch they hide My path they cross Not afraid, but unprepared I told the boss I'll carry this gun for the snakes He told me Watch and be prepared They can look harmless But never trust them Let me teach you something About snakes They cross your path They seek to destroy Be wary of their intentions It's always a cruel ploy © 2022 J.
