Pain

Pain

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

It lingers inside
Sometimes clear
Sometimes turbid

The darkness is where it lives
It thrives on the late
Where it must wait

As if my detriment wasn't bad enough
It takes my own tears to sting my wounds
The feel of my own torture takes my breath
Nothing came without the high tariff

She held me in her heart
She lived in mine
I loved with everything
With nothing left
It fueled me to part

The pain comes from within
Because I pushed a lover
I adored to the ends of the earth
