Whiskey Woman

Whiskey Woman

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

Sweet bitter drink
I can't go on
Wrap me up in your arms
Tell me everything is alright

Use your soothing voice
Your deep blue eyes
Your warm body
To take me away

Whiskey Woman take me home
Away from this pain of mine
Love me for a while
Just make me smile

This bottle is nice and full
This glass just a little tall
One after the other
Drinking for a memory

I ask you a favor
Replace this bottle
With the love of your heart
Keep me and this bottle apart

Whiskey Girl I know you know
How I feel, and I know you
Feel the same way I do

Just lay with me for a night
To dream of another light
Another way to live
Take this love I have to give

Take this half empty bottle
I'm done carrying on this way
I can't keep loving for nothing
These people don't understand

Girl I know it seems silly for me
Just trust me, take me away
Take this cold gun away
I'm tired of going on like this

Whiskey Woman I love you
I don't want to leave you
Just take me away from me
I love you enough to go

Whiskey Woman please take me home
Let me love you while you love me
It can't be any worse than this place
Please Whiskey Woman, please...

Interesting piece. I like the dissonance through the piece...you feel his pain...the struggle...the need...wanting to find some peace in the arms of this Whiskey Woman. You did a great job capturing emotion, and making the reader feel that angst. Great piece.

I sang the below lines a few times.
"Whiskey girl please take me home
Let me love you while you love me
It can't be any worse than this place
Please Whiskey Girl, please..."
Texas girls, whiskey and the Texas two-step. No better place to know. Thank you my friend for sharing the excellent poetry.

You did well my friend and you are welcome.
Hey J,
This poem/song really made my mind think deeply. My task was if its about the substance its self or the temptation of the girl which has him lost in the bottle. I have been gone awhile and am rusty. I like the structure you have placed the content inside. Also, I would like to point out how my mind went back and forth with every last word. The one maybe constructive comment I can think of is "When will this be put to music?" ---Wendy
