Welcome To The Small Town

Welcome To The Small Town

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

Welcome To The Small Town

You came from the city
A place that knew no pity
And came to my little town
Looking for that cowboy

I saw you that Thursday
In town, at the bus stop
Waiting on someone like me
To walk over and say

Welcome to the small town
How do ya do, ma'am
I ain't seen you around here
I'd like to take you out
Show you around town
Maybe a drive in the truck
Maybe the bar for a beer
Or a night under a starry sky

I work out on the land
Making a living on it all
Then play in a five piece band
And enjoy what I got here
I'm only missing a beautiful partner

Give me a week to show you
What I got here in Small Town USA
Just here me out when I say

Welcome to the small town
How do ya do, ma'am
I ain't seen you around here
I'd like to take you out
Show you around town
Maybe a drive in the truck
Maybe the bar for a beer
Or a night under a starry sky

You giggled and stayed to see
We drove out into the field
And talked until the sun set

I took your hand
And told you

Welcome to the small town
How do ya do, ma'am
I ain't seen you around here
I'd like to take you out
Show you around town
Maybe a drive in the truck
Maybe the bar for a beer
Or a night under a starry sky
