Land of God, Girls, and trucks

Land of God, Girls, and trucks

A Poem by J. F. Charleston
"

That's where I live. Where do you?

"
People look down on my town
like we're uncivilized
think we ain't worthy enough
well, there's one thing we've got to say

We come from the land of the free
home of the brave and the land of
God, girls, and trucks

We drive on dirt roads
through mud and water
I live out in the sticks
and haul my own payloads

Where I'm at
we work, love,
eat and sleep
city folks know
nothin' of that

'Cause we're from the land of the free
home of the brave and land of
God, girls, and trucks

I've heard of those clubs
of those lights and so called women
but those aren't real gentleman clubs
us real gentlemen hang in pubs

'Cause we're from the land of the free
home of the brave and land of
God, girls, and trucks

We solute our soldiers
love our friends and
pray to the one and only God

'Cause we're from the land of the free
home of the brave and land of
God, girls, and trucks

'Cause we're from the land of the free
home of the brave and land of
God, girls, and trucks

'Cause we're from the land of the free
home of the brave and land of
God, girls, and trucks

I absolutely love this poem! I live in Canada in a big city, but my heart is always happiest when I'm in the country at the family farm. Sitting in the box of the truck while driving through fields of canola at dusk and listening to the hundreds of crickets sing is one of my most favorite and peaceful things. Reading your poem made me happy, which is a beautiful thing for a poem to be able to do. Not only does it succeed sentimentally, but the elegance of structure and choice of words is formidable. Thank you for sharing this piece!

Nothing wrong with "God, girls, and trucks". I was station in Texas for six years. Best days of life. Don't forget the beer. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
