What If

What If

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

What if I told you
something you'd never expect
or maybe you would
I ain't sayin' you should

What if I told you
that I love you
what if I said my love
was farther than the moon
what if you said
I love you too?

I've been lookin' for ways
to say this to you
searching for signs

Tell me if I'm crazy
if I shouldn't even waste my time
or tell me that you feel the same
and that you've been trying to think
of some way to tell me

What if I loved you
would you fall in my arms
or kick me to the curb

This question I can't
stop thinking about
feelings of doubt
really hold me back

What if you loved me
like I love you
would you take me
as your one and only

You've been looking
for ways to tell me
for signs that tell you
that I love you

What if I said
that I loved you
what if you said
that you loved me
what if we loved each other.

The what ifs leave us yearning and wishing for different ending and results. Regret show us we didn't tried hard enough.

The things we didn't do or say leave a emptiness. The what if of a life leave us with sadness and wishes. Thank you for the outstanding and thought provoking poetry.

I believe you just said the words right here from the start of the verse... Take out the what if... and the verse reads like a book... Love and all its ways to conjure the heart... and then love is known when the point is given to someone... and that's what this is trying to do... give...
