Letter To You

Letter To You

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

If a letter

was all I  could do

to communicate with you

I'd write it all the time

A piece of paper

white or faded yellow

with a pen or a pencil

or just on a old typewriter

I'd tell you

what I'm doin'

and what I'm wishin'

but most of all

how much of you I'm missin'

If a letter

was all I could do

to communicate with you

I'd write it all the time

It be written

with the finest ink

I could lay my hands on

and be the neatest writing

I'd ever do,

if I had to write a letter to you

I'd tell you

what I'm doin'

and what I'm wishin'

but most of all

how much of you I'm missin'

This letter would be like no other

it'd be the sweetest you'd ever read

If a letter

was all I could do

to communicate with you

I'd write it all the time.

I really liked this piece. (I like all of them of course) but I connected to this one more so than others you have written. I know it's another one of your awesome songs, but as I read through the piece, I found myself drifting off at the closing of your words and thinking to myself about a few friends or loved ones from the past that I miss...empty voids in the soul. Bravo to you for a well expressed, simplistic heart felt thought. :)

Well penned, dear Mr. Chaleston. if a letter were all you could hope to muster, this would be the one...

It ??? be written --->must be a word missing in this line. Possibly "WOULD?"

with the finest ink

I could lay my hands on

A very good letter. I miss the days of letters. I saved my letters from when I was in the Army. Letter from missed family members are gold today. I believe writing is personal and more appreciated than the e-mail of today. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
