Sing'n from the Heartland

Sing'n from the Heartland

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

On the radio

songs from the heartland

fill my ears and drives me

to my baby on a saturday night

In the bars

it comes naturally

it's always telling my life

The summer nights

long and hot

the Heartland is

under the star light

George and I

sing'n about the Heartland

we're singing about our lives

how it brings a tear to our eyes

Sing'n about the man

work'n hard and the American heart

rain on the roof

on the summer night

still knowing wrong from right

Sing'n from the Heartland

with George and my buddies

we're sing'n a song about our lives

We're sing'n from the Heartland

we're sing'n from the Heartland

we're sing'n songs about our lives...

...The world is never the same

without the song we sing

that brings our lost spirit

back into the light

The Heartland

isn't just a song

for some old cowboys

or a place for so-called fools

who sit on stools

My heart

sings loud and hard

with a radio or girl

for which takes me

to the very place

called Heartland...

Yes, the song from George Straight, "Heartland", is in this piece. My inspiration came for this one came from it.

Songs make the most wonderful inspirations...I'm listening to acoustic version of Def Leopard "Two Steps Behind" -Live. (cant get the auto correct to stop) Anyway, I can still that guitar player sitting on his stool...but this time he has more of a grin to his voice...a softness but lots of spirit as he and his idol (who's on the record player, yes that old..not CD, his idol belting it out beside him...lending courage and strength to every lick of lyrical melody and his accompanying harmonious collaboration). Long description as to the picture I have in my head. Just a boy...lovin music...struck by how much he can say within one note...how much his voice can project as he belts it out in chorus. Yup that's just what I see. Thank you for the RR :)

You know, what you can see is what I'm seeing right now. He's on the stool, center stage and only on.. read more

This is a great inspired poem. We all usually take our pieces from inspirations and getting that properly on paper is great. good job once again~!
