The Father I Want To BeA Poem by J. F. CharlestonIt's who I want to beMy son deserves the father
I want to be Even though he's not here I still miss him although I never met him I know exactly what he's like He'll want me to hold him while he sleeps cheer him up when he cries to be his best pal I can see him now playing with the John Deer Tractor toy making the vroom sound and him asking me to play with him He'll ask me what the voice of God is while we're out fishing I'll tell him "If you listen closely to the silence you'll be able to find God." We'll be in the shed working on that old Chevy and he'll ask me what a part of the engine he's handing me is for I'll tell him "It's what will make the engine run" Then one day he'll ask me about women and if I loved any woman before his mother I'll tell him yes and to wait until you find the girl you can't live without I want to be the father that he'll remember so he can be the father that I was for him. © 2013 J.
