The Cowboy Hat...

The Cowboy Hat...

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

The cowboy hat.
A western symbol
and passed on from
a pa to a son

Worn by
ranchers and farmers
outlaws and lawmen

It comes in various
sizes and colors
but the shape
remains the same
and keeps its name

A tool and a accessory
worn by blacksmiths
and politicians
gunslingers and peacemakers

The greatest thing
ever invented

It was there
at my cousin's wedding
and my first high school dance
where it was a pleasure to wear

The cowboy hat
will never die
when it comes my time
you can bet
a cowboy hat will be with me
I guaranty you that.

Not sure why I see Austrailia when I read this. I know it's the west in it's core. But for some reason I see Hugh Jackman in a Duster. Call me nuts but I do. I can feel the love you hold for the symbol of such a simple adornment which embodies The Cowboy. Almost hear the accent as I read along. Throw in some of your Texan phrases (just giving name to what I hear there...not poking) and it's TOTALLY a song. Like that artist I saw just the other month...at the "Wolf's Den" Justin Lynch. He was awesome!!! Got a pic with him and all. But that isn't the point...the symbolism is...you captured that very well. Love the picture I have in my head.. :) (you made me see again...love it ;)
