Our Busy Hands

Our Busy Hands

A Story by JEWLDUST
"

What to do on a rainy October day?

"

Its a saturday evening and the rain out side in the October air just wont let up. The plan was

to go for a bike ride after supper like we usually did. But not anymore.

"Look at the size of my hands mom!" Wyatt says as he puts his soft hot hands against my

cold ones.

"Yup their almost as big as mine," I say and ruffle his thick short brown hair with my

cold hand.

"Let's draw our hands!" Monica shouts happly. Soon we had each made three goggly eyed

hand monsters. We tapped them on to the windows and laughed at how funny they looked.

"Do we have any old socks?" Monica askes while wiggling her little smooth pointer finger

into the whole of my sock tickling my baby toe.

"Im certian we do somewhere," I began my search in the craft cup board. Of course I found

old blue and black socks. Then we created sock puppets. Each of us took turns doing a play

behind the love seat in the living room.

By this time the rain had finally stopped. But now it was to dark to go anywhere. I took

off the scratchy old blue grumpy sock and streached my arms behind my head. My hands

touched the top of the lamp behind me and cast a shadow on the ceiling.

For the next half an hour before bed. We used our hands to make different shadows on

the ceiling and wall.

On that rainy day our hands were our rainy day fun!

It would work for a picture book but a few changes need to happen first. For it to work as a picture book you need to remember how old your target audience is. Bring down the vocabulary to a child's level. Take a little time and fix the grammar and spelling, don't just tell the reader to ignore it.
