Yesterday's Kite Day

Yesterday's Kite Day

A Poem by JE Falcon
"

It's all about flying kites, right, if you migh,t as a child.

"

My dog and I

had a kite to fly.

So, we went to the park on Sunday.

It was a day for flying,

or at least for trying,

so we left for the park right away.

Well, my dog has habits

She likes to chase rabbits

Whenever one passes her way.

And I've told her, "NO!

That's not the way to go!"

But another passed by, today.

So, there I was

with my head all a-buzz,

chasing the dog while holding a kite.

I was hoping that the hare

would hide somewhere,

and duck himself out of sight.

Well, sure enough

I fell on my duff.

And the hare? He did find a hole!

I broke my kite

but that was alright,

I had glue in my pocket. You Know?

I know what to bring

to mend kite and string.

There were prior days of chasing that hare.

So, when I launched the kite

it flew just right,

along with the others that were flying up there.

It turns out this Sunday

was mostly a fun day

for me and my dog, in the park.

But Mom gave us trouble,

and for us that went double,

cause we didn't get home before dark.

To many kite eating trees in my neighborhood. Even the parks aren't safe! And yeah, mothers can be the pits for boys and dogs.
Nicely done, Sir.

Thanks, M.J., this was a bit of yesterday.
This is such a playful read, full of whimsy and really captures childhood. I also love that I think children would love this poem. Really nice job.

Much obliged, and thanks for taking the time to review.
Now this is an enjoyable poem with great rhymes. Kids do get lost in their thinking don't they. Their focus is like a laser beam, and at times, that can be a good thing, or a bad thing if you're flying a kite too late for a worried mom. :)

So happy that you enjoyed this. It was taken from a page, and out of a time when kites were magic.
A fun poem. Kite flying brought me a nice bit of nostalgia and if you have a dog too, even better. Haven't flown a kite for years. This poem brings out the inner child in me. Very enjoyable Falcon.
