The Blues-BirdA Poem by JE FalconJust a short poem about birds wearing blue, and what they do.The Indigo Bunting Is not one for wanting Any Blues from the master's display. But the Scrub-Jays do too, Mixing diversion with blue. “Camouflaged, but song-less,” I must say.
Bunting songs come in noted array And I marvel at the music each day. But when those Scrub-Jays come 'round Making that harsh, squawking, sound, It scares my Buntings away.
So I devised a plan, just a hack, I'd divert the Jays from their backyard attack. I put peanuts in a bowl, In the front yard, you know. And finch-food in the feeder out back.
Yes, --- I outsmarted the Jays, it's true, With their very own feeder, brand new. Then I had songs everyday From the Bunting array Until some Ravens came calling. --- “Boo-Hoo.”
