Senior Year (Water Polo? WTF??)A Poem by John KnowlesA poem about meeting someone in passing, but not being able to change direction. The title inside the parenthesis is an inside joke and the asterisk party is not the girl in the poem.
Let my purity of vision save me
Or something to the effect of a friend I never had. I had a friend, I named her boxcar, Just like the Jawbreaker song. With a Chesterfield King between her lips, Let it rot, let it do something. I bet she's mad at me for writing this song. She was just so interesting. Can't catch, react or different, A star splattered sky, I never would have guessed Or thought anyway, ***** said she wanted to die With a Chesterfield King between her lips, She sat and smiled under street lights with me, As she told her stories she let out a sigh And looked to the rainy sky. Let my purity of vision save me, What I had then I'll never have again. She put the exclamation mark on on senior year And I couldn't do anything.
Last time I saw her we were walking home in the rain. She gave me a hiug and told me to be safe. I put on my headphones and listened to some Rancid song. I couldn't do anything, Let my purity of vision save me On the way home.... and i'm running. © 2011 John Knowles |
