The Phoenix

The Phoenix

A Poem by JC
"

Written on the anniversary of 911

"

Today is the day

The day the world stood still and held its breath

A day that would not be forgotten

Like the Phoenix, a nation to rise from the ashes

The ashes of our fathers, mothers

Of our daughters and sons

Of our husbands and wives

Sisters, brothers and friends

Like the Phoenix, to be reborn out of fire

Fire from our hearts and souls

Reborn in commitment and resolve

Reborn in compassion and tolerance

Reborn in unity

Like the Phoenix, to rise and take flight

Rise to replace tears with determination

Rise to replace complacency with diligence

Folly for wisdom

Today is the day

It is our day and no one else's

A day that will not be forgotten

Your poem is a message of hope.

This is a time when we need hope the most, when
our own people just constantly cry , "turn the other
cheek".

This country was still growing and prosperng in the time
of Theodore Roosevelt who urged us to be peaceful , but
"to carry a big stick".

If ordinary citizens were allowed to be armed, 3000 innocents
would not have died on 9-11.

Part of "rising from the ashes" is taking back our country from
the flower children.

Thank you , JC , for a thoughtful and relevant poem at a time
when so many are confused.

My rating----- 100 %

After reading this I think we need to play the national anthem... what a great tribute to a country that can bounce back from such devastation stronger then ever. Maybe the Phoenix should be our national bird now.

Hi JC,
I found this poem fantastic and to the point about being committed and resolved not to let it happen again, (911). I deleted my first review by mistake because it showed two copies but when I deleted one, then both disappeared. Why does it appear that way? "The Phoenix" is beautiful writing and has clear decisive relevance to our precarious future.

I agree with Alex Ferraro. It can be applied to a specific event or not. If it can only be applied to one point in time, the message fades with the memory of that point.

Touching, very touching. It held me deep.

compacency - complacency?

Well done. But my concern now is, what has that phoenix actually become. A tool of justice or one of vengeance?

Inspiring even if you take it out of context. The second to last stanza is my favourite.
