Rage and Grace

Rage and Grace

A Poem by J. C. Koch

All sound goes white

The world turns red

Muscles clench

And blood boils

A taste of fury

Everything spins

Knuckles crack

Thirsty for a fight

Its a wolf, a bear

Any predator

Its a monster, a fiend

The beast is Rage

The pictures form

Horrible things

Coming to pass

Delusions of revenge

And then...

A softer note speaks

It is little, it is green

It whispers

It does not shout

Yet it speaks

Louder than fury

Louder than rage

Louder than revenge

Grace whispers

Thats not the path

You wish to tread

You’re too kind

Then it goes

Red fades to green

Sound returns

And the world slows

And so

He sighed

He walked

He breathed

And he let go

The fury flowed away

Down the stream

Into the ocean

Too vast to notice

But he ran clear

Over the rocks

Through everything

Into time

This is well written! I actually held my breath in the middle and I didn't realize it, then it gives off a sigh of relief kind of feeling once it flows easier towards the end. Perfect depiction of the emotions

I loved the 'And then' and 'And so' parts of this, it really made the poem. Nice job!
