Stranger Still

Stranger Still

A Poem by J. C. Koch

Stranger still
All that you know
Beneath the surface
Is stranger still

You think that you know
Your Stepford smiling neighbor
Just check their closet
And you'll find they are
Stranger still

You think that you know
All of your friends from school
Just check their browsing history
And you'll find they are
Stranger still

You think that you know
All there is about me
Just check my bookcase
And you'll find I am
Stranger still

And you think that you know
Everything about yourself
Just take a chance and cut loose
And you'll find that you are
Still a stranger to yourself

Nice! Being strange is so subjective and depends on each person's point of view. SO there is quite some room for parallax, a truth that is stranger still. A poem much enjoyed. A look of silent acknowledgment is sometimes our only clue. :-))
