Endlessly

Endlessly

A Poem by J. C. Koch
"

A poem about the death of a lover.

"

The hands of time spin

Spinning like windmills in a gale

While eternity waits endlessly

The grey cityscape grows

People bustle all about

And I too, wait endlessly

Cold, icy rain pours down

People are reflected in the street

Soon night will come endlessly

I stand pale and all alone

Jacket flapping in the wind

My heart iced over endlessly

You vanished into the void

By now you are just dust

Drifting on the wind endlessly

Soon, only so many years

till this life ends for me

and we’ll be together, endlessly

Unable to go by my own hand

So I wait here in the rain

As the hands of time spin endlessly

Maybe one day I’ll live again

Show my face to the sun

Shine on, ever endlessly

But for now and foreseeable forever

I’m cold and frozen for eternity

As the world spins like a windmill

Endlessly, endlessly endlessly
