The Distant LightA Poem by J.AInspired by The Great GatsbyHis heart beats, taunting the stillness of the night. Staring at the waves, unwavering, grasping for a light. Dreaming under stars. Pleading to the heavens that tomorrow, he could feel her in his arms. What's the harm in trying? Somethings are better left unspoken. But as the clock keeps ticking, the warmth keeps dying. That's the consequence of hoping.
His heart breaks, haunting the calm and peaceful night. but soon the sun will rise and the stars will disappear. And still he stands in silence, by the pier.
Nothing but the ocean. A boat against the current A quiet, gentle cold. A faint light from a distance. A light he'd never hold. © 2016 J.A |
