![]() My Time Had ComeA Poem by JBradley![]() The story of an old man and his end.![]()
I wrapped myself up in the afternoon of a blazing sun.
Surrounded by these familiar faces, my time had come. An adorable little girl had tears in her eyes, making her world a blur. "Don't be upset, sweetie", someone said to her. A lovely gray haired woman (who been staying here for the past week), leaned over and gave me a kiss on the cheek. They left in quite a hurry, in a line nice and neat. They left me alone, with this unbearable heat! The minutes went by like hours and days. It's only my boredom that was here to stay. In the silence, while gazing at the floor, I heard a sound - a knock at the door. I saw a shadow scurry across the rug. It tucked back it's hair and set down it's mug. "Hello?", they questioned to the person who wasn't there. A cool breeze only entered, sharpening the air. The shadow went back to it's room in the house, not a word. I was caught off guard by what next I had heard. It was the simple, quiet tick and tock of my proudest possession: a grandfather clock. It stood in it's spot, proudly, bold and complete. Before I had know it, I was back on my feet. To listen to it long enough, it would never annoy. In the glass reflection, I saw myself as a boy. I used to be wondrous, curious and free. Now I stand here, lifeless and weak in the knees. In the reflection, something strange had occurred. I saw myself as a man, my vision blurred. The harder I looked, the more I had known. I was a skeleton: fleshless and bone!
