Lies and Broken Promises

Lies and Broken Promises

A Poem by Kelli April
"

A poem about the damage that telling lies does and the feeling That someone can’t possibly love you if they continue to lie.

"
“I promise I’ll change,”
Is something they say,
To reel you back in,
After you walk away.

But do they really,
Change that is,
Or do they just say it,
So you’ll remain his?

No matter the reason,
For telling the lie,
They’ll never confess,
So don’t ask why.

The lies build up,
Throughout the years,
So much so in fact,
That you’ve cried all your tears.

With no tears left,
And you’re unable to cry,
Maybe now is the time,
To start asking why.

Why do they do,
The things that they do,
Especially all the lies,
What’s wrong with the truth?

They say they love you,
But there’s no way they do,
Because if they did,
You would matter, too.

Absolutely amazing. Sometimes the person or people we care about can frustrate us to know end. We constantly ponder in our minds, "why did they do it?" Honestly in my opinion, if people have something to gain from a situation they are going to do what suits them best. Whether its right or wrong, some people don't operate with a moral compass or respect for the one they say they care for. In the end,you learn more about the kinds of people there are in this world and yourself too. I think after a while our souls become hardened to the point we're in defense move constantly, but that shouldn't deter us from letting the people that genuinely care for us be in our lives. I'd say people will show you who they are, without you having to ask. Once you've spent enough time with someone you become aware of their true colors. Overall, I agree with your message and I say keep writing.

Gee
You have to have a great memory and hard heart to lie convincingly, if that ain't in your arsenal, no point bothering.

Another truthfully written gem. Yep! Been here, too!

Sometimes people just can never change for the better, as much as they desperately may want to. It's the old "leopard doesn't change its spots" theme. Lying, cheating, hating.....it's all a product of experience and imprinting. And for someone to change completely is a rare happening, indeed.

Again, your poem is infinitely relatable to all who have suffered in love and relationships. Briskly paced throughout with a gently flowing rhyme. Nice work.

or are they lying to themselves as well as to us...
