Once lovers, one has moved on with another, after a long time trying in that past, unhealthy relationship. Yet the ex seems to refuse to let go and move on, harboring an unhealthy obsession.

It's sad to believe
We couldn't even be friends
In spite of a past history of lovers
Having civil conversations
Hand-in-hand with someone else
Laughing together, over hot tea or coffee
Without awkward glances
Underlying hostilities or regrets
A friendly handshake
Even a pat on the back
From a brief hug
Before casual goodbyes
As we continue on the course of our lives
But current circumstances show
Verification of unspoken facts
And actions that speak louder
