Optimism

Optimism

A Poem by J A Lauder
"

A poem I wrote a while ago after a really annoying stranger wouldn't leave my friends and me alone.

"

I’m sorry if my optimism,

Is a prison,

In your blinkered vision,

I apologise if in your eyes,

I’m not that wise,

Don’t analyse,

When on a whim,

I start to sing,

Walk round with a grin,

I am well aware,

Of every snare,

And I do care,

About the isms,

And the schisms,

And that pesky old religion,

The world’s a state,

I don’t debate,

It’s not great,

But my friend,

In the end,

It will mend,

You see my optimism,

That you call prison,

In your cynical derision,

Is my way,

To have my say,

That old cliché,

Don’t let the b******s grind you down,

Turn that frown,

Upside down,

The point I am making,

However long it is taking,

Now my rhythm is breaking,

Is that I know the world’s a mess,

But I’ll give my life my best,

You can figure out the rest,

Now f**k off and leave me alone.

Very nice! I liked the satirical feel of this poem, and thought that you expressed your feelings really well.
Your poem had a really even rhythmic flow to it, and I liked the way in which it seemed to gather speed as the poem progressed, ultimately finishing with the line 'Now f**k off and leave me alone.'.
Good work,
