I Should Have Fought for You

I Should Have Fought for You

A Poem by James Probert
"

Unrequited love never goes away.

"
I loved you more than anything
That's why I let you go
Now I'm always reminded that
You were my only hope
With every day that passes
I don't know what to do
I finally realized that
I should have fought for you

I met you quite some time ago
We were so damn young back then
Your beauty almost buckled me
Of course we made fast friends
Each day my wonder only grew
But I couldn't confess
For you were too damn beautiful
And I was something less

As time passed we became very close
You'd tell me anything
It didn't help my heart to find
That you could f*****g sing
The first time that I heard your voice
That's when I finally fell
My heart grew big, my eyes flew wide
And I was locked in jail

I loved you more than anything
That's why I let you go
Now I'm always reminded that
You were my only hope
With every day that passes
I don't know what to do
I finally realized that
I should have fought for you

Eventually we grew apart
As every friendship does
We kept up with each other
And we met when times were tough
I never lost my feelings though
And I was always there
Hoping you would notice me
And how much that I cared

Then a man came in your life
And I was cast aside
He did what I could never do
He was perfect in your eyes
Knowing that I'd never win
I withdrew, I said goodbye
There's no way I'd come in between
The love you felt was right

I loved you more than anything
That's why I let you go
Now I'm always reminded that
You were my only hope
With every day that passes
I don't know what to do
I finally realized that
I should have fought for you
