Mirror, MirrorA Poem by Rose Masen
Mirror, Mirror, standing there mocking me,
Paint me an image of who society would like me to be. Tall and skinny, porcelain skin, Sketch my past in perfection like it should have been. Take my curls in trade for straight hair, Give me confidence, in no matter what I wear. Allow me sexiness, and make my smile alluring, Just some simple requests, I loath this "Average Joe" Look I'm enduring. When music caresses my ears, give my hips an exotic motion, Let me smile at a let down, instead of tears of an ocean. Wishful thinking for feet that glide feather-like in a high heel shoe, Instead of this unnerving, off balance, wobble that ensues. Give me the lips of softness that form the shape of the purest cloud, A smell so potent, it's sensual and erotic, drawing the attention of everyone around. Fill out my hips with sinful curves, like a winding road, And legs of a goddess, yearning for a touch that is painfully slowed. Yet reality strikes and I blink with anxiousness, my hearts racing, As I take in the real me, average and bleak, my minds left pacing. I take in my body, covered with jeans and a hoodie, almost unrecognizable, The fantasy me smiles cockily, reminding me I can be exotic, erotic and irresistible. © 2013 Rose MasenAuthor's Note
