Just Words

Just Words

A Poem by J. Hampton
"

If people were held accountable for What they SAY ....in the same way ...as we are for...what we DO ( we'd all be locked up doing life ...or HEROS ) think about it ?

"

Lord ...protect  me
from late night encounters
of the.... word kind
Generating empty topics
through my phone line
Insipid converstion....
of the worst kind

Complete mental anethesia ....
of my Third eye
my task to deal and bear it

Empty promise indulging
"sweet nothings"....... gone savage
the meaning...
so lost
your brain....under average

Dial tone ....finally comes
I rebuke what I heard....
Brush it off...
back to sleep
after all....
They're just words

Wow! At least I'm truly grateful that I don't at least have your phone number, and even if I had it that I wouldn't be one of the unlucky few who've attempted calling you, if not then at least it's a good thing knowing that this poem doesn't have my name written on it. Such firey anger you have! But at least ... they're just words. Or are they really?

Thanks to Em for sending this my way. As a cheesy Christian chick - this one really talks to my spirit in a BIG way.
Yup - the tongue is deadly - and it is my Humble Opinion that especially as writers - sometimes we are casual about the power we weild. Words are formidable power....and when crafted by someone like yourself - they can be balm, or a weapon. This poem is gentle - well worded - but it definitely leaves a mark.
Nicely done!

This is brilliant! You took nine words and built this around it? Mental wordplay. What if we only spoke when we had something important to say? Imagine how different we would be. . .

Your style is so unique and refreshing. It's as if you brush the words onto the paper :)

Very nicely done!

I hadn't read this one until just now and I have to say, this one is my favorite of your poems.

Your writing style is just so fun! I love how you don't tell a story but rather describe a particular object or event with words that just seem to roll right off the tip of your tongue and then tie it all off with a ribbon, wrapping it up just perfectly.

Great job!

I love how you contradict your poem by adding a proverb that proves you wrong! How humble! : )
This is a really great piece, loved it!

Just words!!! They are never just words. Words have caused more damage than armies ever could - for great words have inspired great armies, and great peace.

I liked your quote from proverbs, too. Interesting little caveat . . lol

Another great write.
