Not many folks carry this kind burden for others. The willingness to share all of the truth of God is uncommon in these times of political correctness and the popular "we're all in the same boat" mentality that encourages everyone to do their own thing because "we'll all meet on that golden shore in the end anyway".
Well we are not "all in the same boat". And, by the way, that big old barge of convenience that the majority of folks have mistakenly or unwarily shuffled aboard is rapidly taking on water.
"...spiritual bargin-shoppers you know those ... generic seeking non-comittal "scripture-Hoppers"
The problem is most people have no idea what they truly can have in God. They are just not aware how real and tangible He is. But He has not changed! Chapter 2 of Acts is still the same and verse 38 is still simple, pure, and powerful.
The challenge in these modern times is sharing the depth and promises of God with those you meet and care about without seeming to them to be a wild-eyed fanatic. It takes a lot of prayer, a lot of patience, and a lot of listening I think.
Thank you for this marvelously bold and important piece!
Ah religious hypocrisy in all its glory. So much damage has been done to people historically and personally by the hypocrisy of so many so-called spiritual leaders and their followers. Learning to others as we want to loved, to treat others as we want to be treated...to respect the earth...what's so hard about that?
Thank you for writing such a though-provoking poem.
I'm not religious, but I have to say that I love this poem. There are far too many people who consider themselves to be "in-touch with (insert deity-of-the-week here)," and yet they have no idea what it means to be spiritually uplifted by that belief. Thanks for writing this piece. Not only was it well-written, but it was obviously well thought out.

Gurl, you had me SCREAMIN-N-N-N..
I just read People's "Plain English (Dope Boy)."
And what a Cosmically Appropriate follow up this was.
If I picked this apart, line by line, every line would be hecka better than the last.
The deepness, the intricacies of your observations...
Contrasted with the shallowness of those who simply "play" at religion yet EXPECT to be saved...
You didn't just hit the nail on the head J Hood, you drove it through the wall,
leaving a tiny peephole through which you've shared your vision.
Hopefully SOMEone will see themselves and WAKE THE ??? UP before--
"...oooops they "dead"..."
This is your best piece yet Jen. When are you coming with a book?

This was a sweet emotional piece. I look at God as the source of all my power and inspiration, the fountain of all my blessings and the healing balm for all my wounds. There is no religion on earth that can replace a personal relationship with God. " And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8 Great poem here.
I weep at those who talk the talk and don't walk the talk; those who don't know the difference between being self-centred and people-centred and others who display an outward piety when inside they are full of deceit.
Excellently written and a poignant reminder of all the hypocrisy poisoning our world today.
