Broken

This piece is dedicated to all who are, or have been victims of domestic violence, man or woman. To those still lyiing in wait for their moment to break free, there's no time like the present.

I'm no longer afraid of the battle

I'll go one final round with you

Toe to toe. Face to face.

And, in triumphant satisfaction

I will smile, knowing

I won't be broken.

There will be

No more deafening silence

Between fits of rage

Watching and waiting

In reticent trepidation,

For the next eruption

Of anger or violence

I won't be broken.

Stronger than you think,

I can make it through this

And to the other side.

I will make my way out

Of  your vapid darkness

I will find my light

And it will shine once again.

You can try, but

You. Can't. Break. Me.
