The Pretentious Poet

The Pretentious Poet

A Poem by J.A.Bentley
"

Hark' poets come hither, for dinner is served.

"
Poet,
what can you do
that hasn't been done?
Can you show the light
to people who chose
to be dumb?

Poet,
you're too clever
for your own good.
I know you're trapped,
you don't but
you should.

Poet,
you've drawn the lines
and set the walls.
you claimed your stance
said your point
but hate it all.

Poet,
you act as if
you're the only one
to think your thoughts
on death, truth,
and love.

Poet,
what are you escaping from?

Poet,
look at the monster you've become.
