Santa Ana FiresA Poem by J Todd Underhill01/09/2025God, I pray for the firemen today. Who are facing the dragon’s mighty roar. Give them energy and grant them safety; As you did for me so many years before. Please dry their tears and sooth their aching bones. For their family put to rest the unknowns. If it be your will spare them from tragedy; That is the prayer that this poet doth plea.
God, I pray for the people who’ve lost their homes, I beg you make their recovery swift. Everyone in the devastation zones. Set each one apart for a special gift. Please do provide as I know you can; And I understand that you have a plan. For those poor victims are truly in need. And I also pray that the flames recede.
God, I pray for the politicians; May they please see the errors of their ways, And the thwart them from their evil ambitions, Also shorten their awful ruling days. Please elevate leaders who are born to serve; Provide justice the bad ones do deserve. And replace the thievery with wisdom; But I know that I should just forgive them.
God, I pray for the lives that have been lost. Open Heaven’s doors and bring them home to you. The innocent people that paid the cost; Erase their memory of what they’ve been through. And this I pray with my entire soul, You and your son I constantly extol. Now their mortal forms have been vacated; May their earthly lives have not been wasted.
