Sonnet From a Dirt Track FanA Poem by J Todd UnderhillNaPoMo Entry 10The smell of water evaporating. The truck pulls lap after lap in reverse. The oval track they are saturating. The drivers eye the size of the purse. A Saturday night and slideways action. The smell of corn fuel just like Pez Candy. Cars looking for every ounce of traction, The north wind blowing dust that is sandy. Dwarf cars, Midgets, Sprints with or without wings, Pro stock, Modifieds and those late model cars. To this poet they are wonderous things, Better the
track than casinos or bars. Saturday nights better than a weekday, With summertime fun out at the speedway. 04/10/2024 © 2024 J Todd Underhill |
