The Morning Man

Waking up before the sun comes up,

The dawn breaking silently in the spring,

The rooster crows and I reply what?

Early mornings are a wondrous thing.

Coffee brewed and the day is under way,

The hours begin to tick off and fly.

Poetic thoughts I mine, the tailings in which I play,

Never making sense, no matter how I try.

Sunrise rise, Folgers, and a heater and I am ready,

Let’s make this day an amazing one.

One more cup of coffee and a smoke to steady,

Embracing the chores or job to be done

A working man as other poets have said,

Wake up early and stay up late.

Burning the candle any which way until I’m dead,

Filling my life up you cannot debate.

Living my life at full throttle,

Making the most of my remaining time.

Now that I have kick the horrid bottle,

More hours for me to write my rhyme.

Waking up before the sun comes up,

The dawn breaking silently in the spring,

The rooster crows and I reply what?

Early mornings are a wondrous thing.
