My First Book

A Poem by J Todd Underhill

I published my first book for a girl unworthy,

She played with my emotions and then hurt me.

Another twist my heart had left unseen,

I was an innocent poet still just merely a teen.

The opening of my eyes to this life’s woes,

Dousing my depression with Vodka like no one knows.

Walking a path of self-destruction for years,

Abusing Ethyl Alcohol to dry my tears.

Now down the road I realize,

The alcohol abuse blinded my eyes.

My writing seemed trite and forced,

My liver and body nearly divorced.

I think about that girl often,

My first publication not easily forgotten.

However I improved with my partner in life,

Ever so thankful for the woman who is my wife

I'm reading this with J Todd's voice, 😅. While following the written words I thought it would end depressing, but then you caught me by surprise! I maybe too late to say this... Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Todd Underhill!
