Sonnet From a Tired Poet

Sonnet From a Tired Poet

I’m struggling to keep my brain engaged,

The coffee refusing to wake me up.

The war with Morpheus now being waged,

All while I am begging for a second cup.

I’m trying to get my mind’s gears turning,

In this early morning so close to dawn.

My eyes are bloodshot, itchy and burning,

As I stretch and strain to fight off a yawn.

I need my coffee from an I.V. Drip,

Deathwish or Starbucks brew will do the trick.

Extra Caffeine that’s too bitter to sip,

To kick start my heart and wake me up quick.

Praying my brain will fire on time,

For this poet has got to rise and shine.

Reminds me of my working days. Excellent sonnet, very nicely rhymed.
