Poetic Freak

Poetic Freak

A Poem by J Todd Underhill

"

The future is so bleak I cannot speak,

Best days in my rearview mirror.

Poets and Prophets courageous or meek,

Destiny laid out, finality becoming clearer.

Like divine that came and went before;

I write the inspiration down to pages.

Soon to crawl the night’s plutonian shore,

Just like the other chiefs and sages.

Then I may have what I cannot gain on earth;

Peace and clarity for my infirmed mind.

Joy and happiness, merriment and mirth.

The third eye no longer scabbed over blind.

When the Rooster crows, I will awake;

From this dream that I called living.

Leaving volumes as my poetic wake.

Of my all that I am giving.

The future is so bleak I cannot speak,

But I force myself try as I may.

Remaining as I lived, a poetic freak,

Up until my final day.

Introspective view, somber and conceding, if I didn't know any better I would think this poem was leaning toward suicide but I know you have too much to live for to sell the farm now.

Great flow of rhyme and thought, it plucks the heartstrings and making me want to respond with a virtual hug and gentle words of a friend, whispering...Better days are ahead, count on it !

Write on my talented and thoughtful friend. God bless you and yours.

There's something intriguing about a poet freak,
one who emotionally feels with so much depth,
with so much vibration.

The strange beauty is in how a poet freak
can sometimes feel responsible for everything
that's happening in the world: the beauty and the ugly.

Keep striving, keep writing. Bravo.

Whenever I read something that moves me, I have difficulty in writing a review. Oft times there are poets that are simply ineffable to define. This spoke to me, and it didn't speak of a poetic freak. I quite enjoyed its delivery, and the passion from whence it came. Ineffable.

We all feel these words as Creatives. We can be use our gifts and talents to hold up the mirror to the world with our words and Art.

i liked this a lot. especially now. maybe the speaker just needs a helping hand. someone who always gave them hope, but everyone is denying it, or saying it's not possible. the speaker needs this person now more than ever, because with them, not only does it give them hope, it will give the world hope. the longer someone goes without hope, the longer they'll feel like this poem.

Has a lyrical quality to it, love the oblique mythological references. I didn't catch the suicide vibe but I definitely got the somber introspection. As we age I imagine this is something we all do. Great work.

A well rhymed epitaph here. Sometimes things just don't work out as we had hoped.
