Abandon

Abandon

A Poem by Ivey Winters

I often wonder if your eyes
catch the moon the exact moment as mine;
just as inky, sinister clouds swallow it.
After it abandons you in the ominous dark
and every ounce of your heavy, melancholic soul
drops you to your knees,

may your heart petrify from the same poison you fed me.

A very powerful final line. Love the way it plays off the cliche of two lovers sharing the same moon. I could almost feel the malice carried through space.
