Wet in That Rain

 

 

You thought of all the people

who had walked in that light,

wet in that rain.

 

You thought of all the people

who had walked on that path,

long before light,

wet in that rain.

 

You stood at the window

counting windows till they disappeared.

She blinked on the twin bed,

wet in that rain.

The you it would seem is the speaker addressing himself but with an insistence that makes the address accusatory. Is he haunted by the memory of a woman that he has wronged in some way? Who are these people he mentions? What is the significance of the rain and the wetness? It is mysterious incantatory verse. It reads somewhat like a prayer or a hymn.
