Mona looked at the old house that now lay in ruins. She had a vague feeling it had been amazingly beautiful and it had once held a family. She sighed and rested her hand on a rickety fence that surrounded the ruins. She didn't bother to wonder why the house rest in shambles yet the fence was in fair condition.
The house was built a hundred year ago, probably in early 2000 (Only about 125 years ago, really). Most things from back then had been destroyed by now in the making of the New World.
The New World was established in 300, shortly after a mass explosion cause all of the continents so misshape and new creatures to form--dangerous ones at that. The New World was completely different. Not only had things farther advanced, style changed, but things changes all around. Some how, a culture that had been buried for hundreds of years rose to power, then other cultures soon followed. Each Kingdom (Or, continent as they would've called them) was ruled by a different culture. Mona lived in what was considered the Warrior Kingdom; the strongest fighters came from here, and of course, Mona was one of them. The other worlds, or most of them, had been taken over by such mysterious, dark, evil things that it was forbade that anyone travel to them.
Everywhere was at war. But you didn't hear much about it, oddly enough.
The wind whistled past her, shaking the dead trees and the old white fence. Her black hair that had the top layer pulled back from her face blew as well. She shut her misty grey eyes. She loved the wind. It was calming and whispered past, not caring if you moved out of it's way.
She pulled at her shorts. Her outfit was a traditional Warrior's outfit; a band of maroon covering just enough of her chest, a long vest (stretching down to her knees) with no sleeves and maroon shorts. She kept a long sword at her side in a Kiwa(a creature that was ride-able and looked much like a all black ostrich but with a bigger head)-hide belt. She wore short boots with no heel.
She turned from the house and headed down the hill toward the Main Square. As usual, in the middle was the arena (a large platform with a floating roof to block rain where everyone could show of their skills) and kids ran around screaming and acting wild.
A little girl in a long pink dress bumped into her leg. "Oh! Sorry, Mona!" She ran on.
Mona looked at her as she continued on, smiling.
Mona was 17 now, and was expected to go onto great things...something like own a store or be a teacher, but she wanted greater than that-she wanted to help in the wars just like her father had when he died.
The summer of 3025 would be her last summer of messing around and being careless. And she didn't like to dwell on that fact.
"There you are," Her best friend, Axavior was leaning against a wall, hidden in the shadows. His hair was long and brown. It swooped sideways (back in the Old World, people would've called it 'emo looks' but now, it was considered common amongst young men) and hid his green eyes just slightly. He was strong and skinny, he was swooned over by most girls, most boys envied him almost as much as the girls envied Mona for being his friend.
"Sorry," Mona said. They started walking quickly.
Axavior wore straight black pants and a long coat with long sleeves rolled up to his elbow and the collar popped up. He wore black boots. "Well, we're not nearly as late..." He tossed her an apple that appeared out of nowhere.
"Thanks," Mona mumbled. She took a tiny bite of the juicy yet sour fruit. "Still going through with this?"
"Of course," He laughed. "Why wouldn't I? Either we get permission to go...or we just...go."
"Permission comes first...but trust me, I'd rather just leave. I'm sick of going by the rules. Being seventeen, you'd think I'd be out of this damned town.." She shook her head.
 "We'll be out soon."
 "Hopefully." They both said.

"Permission to leave this city and go into the other Kingdoms?" Adviser said. He was a middle aged man who basically ruled the city, under the King.
"Of course," Mona said. She was cocking her head slightly and smirking. "I know some interesting things about what's going on out there. And I know how to help."
"You're a-a-well, you're a girl, Mona. We have men out there."
 "She's a damn bad-a*s, Mr. A!" Axavior spoke up.
"Hush, Axavior." Mona hissed. "As I was saying, you can't deny I'm useless. Have I not proven myself by passing every single test needed?"
"Yes, of course, and with the best outcomes we've ever seen. Why, you're better than most of the men we've got out there, but it's no place for a woman to be."
"Yet if I were a man, there'd be no questions asked?" Mona said, her smirk growing.
 "Why-I-"
"Mr. Adviser, you see, I've obviously got the talent and the skills to be out there. If you'd like to keep suffering and sending all of the men in the city out there, well, fine. But don't expect me to come back when you finally realize I'm worth it."
Axavior and Mona started to walk down the long hall back toward the door. They heard the door to the courtroom where they had just been slam.
 "One...two...three..." Mona smiled.
"M-Mona," He called. "I...I give you permission...just come sign and, well..." He cleared his throat. "Axavior has to go with you. You'll have your own jet and everything. Do your own thing. And that's that."
 Axavior smiled. "Why, of course."
"Mona?" Adviser nervously tapped his foot.
"But I'm just a woman," Mona said with a pout before triumphantly strutting to the courtroom with the two of them.
