Full Potential

Full Potential

A Poem by Eli

I'll show you the difference,
Between anger and rage.
Masses of ashes,
Coffin to cage.
Bit the bullet,
Solved the maze.
Forgot the reason,
As to why I crave,
All that which proceeds to elude.
No time left,
From which to preclude.

Waking up,
To a world ever-changing,
Rearranging, contemplating,
A rule I can't abide to.
Everything I ever loved,
Left my side to,
Find selfish disclosure.
Gazing in glorious spite,
Unforeseen moments of exposure.

I never knew my full potential,
Till the day I lost everything.
Eroded all sense of direction,
From the constant badgering.
Ringing bells, foul smells,
Trenches dug too deep.
You can let the princess rot,
But I will always defend my keep.

For I search this frozen abyss,
To move on from all,
The memories I reminisce.
Away from this reality,
That grew up all around me.
The forest set in place,
Time of no measure in angst.

Ah, the angst of youth always laughs at what it perceives as the submission of old age. But one must remember the old did not become old by being foolish. Or as I heard a sergeant once put it, " There are old soldiers and bold soldiers but there are no old, bold soldiers." Rage is too unfocused and anger, too controlling, but show me a man with purpose who can keep his head and keep his personal sentiments in check and I'll show you a truly dangerous fellow. I enjoyed the read my friend, it's good to remember the immortality and fiery passion of youth. Here's to living long enough to develop our full potential.
