Eat it, Don't eat itA Poem by Ita Bobo DAfrican PoetA plant is food but food should not come from a plant.
In the village square, beneath the sun’s blaze
Women gathered, their skills to amaze Scent of Jollof rice, in the air it did dance A savory aroma, a culinary romance Under the baobab, stories were told Meals shared together, hearts made bold In calabashes and pots, secrets untold Heirloom recipes, stories of old In fields of green where nature thrives Two choices for our plates arrive One, Pure, with life's embrace The other, Altered, in a different space In nature's rhythm, Pure proudly grow No shortcuts taken, no hidden woe No sprays of poison, no altered genes Life stirs in the soil, in endless streams. With sun and rain, they proudly stand Offering health from the farmer's hand From soil to plate, a journey so pure In every bite, health’s taste assured. In laboratories and factories' might Altered are born in the night In aisles of aisles, they neatly stand Foods, shaped by human hand Processed, packaged, convenience on display With ingredients whose names lead us astray Choose your path, with care and thought For the food you eat, the change you've sought In search of health and a sustainable goal Let's understand the food that feeds our soul Eat it when it's a plant Don't eat it when it's coming from a plant Let’s weigh our choices, with hearts and minds For in each decision, our future we find © 2024 Ita Bobo DAfrican Poet |
