Chapter 3

“Mrs.Cyro we need you to leave now!” The doctor was commanding the nurse to get her out of here,” Give me the defibrillators. NOW!” They could still hear the doctor yelling from inside the room,”He’s losing consciousness. I need the saline.”

The nurses lead them into the waiting room, there they sat for 2 hours. A doctor came out, Achilles read his name tag “Doctor Rodriguez”.

“Your son….. He is fine, we managed to pull him through. You will be able to take him home after we monitor him for a few days. This ‘incident’ has improved his brain condition. His stuttering will be severely better.” He saw Mrs.Cyro’s face of joy along with her daughters. They walked towards his room, all you could see in the darkness of the room was his bright blue eyes and that bright smile of his,”I did it mom, I was your strong boy.” He sounded very restless.

“Yes, yes you are my baby.” She was smiling and crying tears of joy. The father rushed into the hospital, he hugged him tightly. The nurses came in and gave him pain meds to ease the pain. The Cyros left and dropped Achilles off a his house,”Thank you for being his only friend.” The mother looked him straight in the eyes with a serious face.

“Thank you for letting him be my friend.” He looked at her dull eyes and smiled.

It was finally Christmas break and Achilles was preparing with his father, he was setting up the tree when a knock came on the door “Who could that be?” he though.

He opened the door to see Caedicia and Jax, His smile stretched across his face. He grabbed Caedicia and kissed her once again, she kissed him back. Jax stared at them as if they were insane,”Hey now, that’s my sister. Remember.”

“What are you guys doing here?” He asked enthusiastically.

“We convinced our mom to drive us out here.” Caedicia spoke while wiping her lips from the kiss.

“I thought I would never see you again. The Cyros are coming over by the way.”

“Who are the Cyros?” Jax looked in the direction of their old house.

“Oh, you will love them. They’re a family of five- The parents the twins and their son.” He said smiling as their car pulled up,”Speak of the Devil.” Everyone laughed.

Everyone introduced themselves, Achilles’s mother was shocked how many people were in her house. She pulled Achilles aside.

“Achilles are they going to stay overnight?” She looked him with that ‘mom’ expression on her face.

“No not the Cyros but Jax and Caedicia. If that’s okay with you?”

“That’s fine, thank you.” She walked back into the kitchen.

Achilles walked back to his friend as they hung out all night,” Hey Achilles we have NEVER been in the forest and we’ve heard a lot of stories. Like witches and stuff. Wanna go?” Dashe asked.

“I guess we can leave after my mom sleeps because she doesn’t want me going there. My dad’s at work so we will be good.” He said with a strange tone in his voice.

“Are you okay?” Caedicia asked him.

“Yeah. It’s just that I have never disobeyed my mom.” his head look at his feet which he couldn’t stop moving.

That night they packed up clothes, food, water, flashlights, and even tents just in case they got lost. Achilles still seemed worried about everything, Caedicia noticed him and confronted him,”You still seem a little uneasy...You alright? Just say the word and we can stay back, it’s fine.”

“No, I will be fine. I’m 16, I need to learn to be independent.” Anger shrouded his face.

“Ummm, alright then….” Caedicia was worried for him but carried on.

When everyone was done packing they waited for his parents to fall asleep. Once they did Achilles gave the ‘okay’. They all quietly snuck out one after another, Syco tripped. Jax quickly picked him up as he made a loud thud. They could hear his parents walking around upstairs, then a voice called out.

“Everything okay out there?” His father called out.

“Yes, I just tripped over the rug is all.” Achilles looked at Syco with disappointment

“Alright, if you need anything just call.” His father did not sound the least bit worried.

“Yeah, yeah I will. Goodnight.” Achilles was still looking at Syco but this time with anger.

They continued on after 30 minutes,”Could you try to be less clumsy?” Achilles was not being himself and everyone noticed.

“I’m sorry, I was in a hurry. I won’t be clumsy in the forest, I promise.” Syco shed a tear.

“Good, now let’s keep moving 4 miles to go until the perimeter of the forest.” Achilles let out a wolfish grin.
