Verisimilitude

Verisimilitude

A Poem by Isola

Verily I say to you
You gaze at shadows
and not Truth
You see the flower
and not the root

So beguiling
this alluring dance
bewitching you
into a trance

But where the feet
that make it so
that stir the whirlwind
of this dust

Your eyes are thieves
that rob your sight
as ocean swallows
starlit night

Static clouds
befuddle light
casting shadows
in your view

The mind delights
where it deludes
erecting shrines
of paper walls
venerating
broken bones

In this world
of verisimilitude
the semblance
of a greater Truth

Your reflection
peering from a lake
is only that

and not you
