Last chance

Last chance

A Poem by Island Hippy
"

inspired by the music I've been listening to lately... Sharon Jones & The Dapkings, BB King & Sam Cooke

"

A long stretch, down a dirt road
headlights shinin' bright,

took a wrong turn when he walked
on by, smiles so sleepy in blue eyes

she was disconnected, love infected,
he told lies, she could tell but she
just didn't care

she was an easy mark, just needed to
be loved, always running to catch up.

She turned over all he couldn't give her,
became a blonde; he might like her better

lost it all on a last chance, because you
can't cage a travellin man

tried living where he didn't belong;
her heart was no place for his, no
vessel for roaming

so dusty boots and whiskey took him
home; swagger on, for one more
last chance till it's all buried & gone.

"Lost it all on a last chance, because you can't cage a travellin man"-love this line my ohana! I really think it could be a wonderful song. Truer words were never spoken- we can't change the leopard's spots no matter how hard we try. We just hurt ourselves trying....

Mahalo ohana, I appreciate you leaving such lovely words x
I love your poetry. Real life and desperate places poetry. Life is rarely sweet and I like the realistic poetry.

I love the above lines. I understand them. I ran from demons for 20 years and one day I realized. I was the demon. Thank you Izzy for sharing the amazing poetry.

Powerful words. You had written and you are welcome dear Izzy.
This is a wonderful piece! love the melancholy feel to it, espcially this line:

smiles so sleepy in blue eyes

I love the way you formed this piece

You're welcome!
Whoa, I love this!
It has a awesome southern feel to it, mixed with pure emotions written into a beautiful flow. It would make an awesome country song, and I'd play it all day - and I don't even like country!

I liked the line;
"he told lies, she could tell but she
just didn't care."
It's a great little play on words, and very relatable. A lot of times this happens in love.

Really good work here.

Haha...Mahalo for your cool review, I appreciate your time.
Okay, now I got a tune for this stuck in my head. :)
Those dirt roads are always way too long and always have farther to go to someone who can't sit still. We've all done it, changed ourselves for someone, despite knowing deep down that all that has really changed is the shell and that one day that path will lure them away.
ps....I think swagger is way under used. Great word :)

It's so sweetly said...the pain which is felt throughout the lines...

When we give out all and yet realise it was for someone who dint deserve it...

I enjoyed reading it
