A Poet's Room

A Poet's Room

A Poem by Ishan Sadwelkar

A Poet’s Room

A poet’s room

Is devoid of

Walls, windows

Curtains, shelves

Even a ceiling

There is no commitment throughout

And no promise

Not even cracked partitions

On the changing floor

Maybe some periodic stimulations

Of human seasons

Scenes from the past

Well acted out by himself

Selfless images of ideas

Scattered as sentences

In the weak air around him

A drizzle of papers

And inconsistent blots

Of invisible expressions

People surround him as inspirations

Gods hover above his sleep

A poet’s room

Has no hidden chaos, no lies

No openings and no exits

Only the unseen illusion

Of witnessing the pseudo

And certain well-preserved meanings

Of words and thoughts

To be used again sometime

to describe

His changing room.

This poem was amazing! I'm not sure if I get the meaning, but to each its own :) I loved it so much and can relate and understand pretty much everything you said. The Poet creates it all with no surprise and it's the truth! We writer's know exactly what will happen next and this poem really expresses everything wondefully. Continue writing! It's great!

Wow, I kinda got the whole gist of it xD Though it made it hard for me to read, my eyes aren't as good as they were before x.x I would appreciate it more if there were like spaces in your stanza =o But you know what, it doesn't lower or degrade the value of your poem. It was a very beautiful write nonetheless. :)

Ishan you make me so jealous, you're writing is amazing.

This poem is absolutely beautiful, and certainly one of your best (And you know how much I adore your poems)

It means a lot to many poets here- you've really hit the nail on the head.

Once again your imagery is fantastic. This poem means a lot to me, and shall serve as a muse :)

I like your use of words in this, and I like the idea, well done.

This is a very much interesting poem. I like the way you described what it is like to be in a poet's room (whether it'd be the physical room or the metaphorically saying for the mind). Well done and well said :)

this is really a great piece. It reminds me of Dickens when he wrote in bleak house of the character who internally combusts as he's alone in his little writing world.

Very well done.

Enjoyed your poem and the description of the whole space of a poet within the cocoon of the room of words and thoughts:
A drizzle of papers
And inconsistent blots
Of invisible expressions
People surround him inspirations
Gods hover above his sleep
A poet’s room
Has no hidden chaos, no lies
No openings and no exits
Only the unseen illusion
Good job!

This is an interesting poem. Your imagery is pretty good, but there are some problems with this poem.

"Is devoid of / Walls, windows" has a weird break. I think the break should happen before 'of' rather than after.

"People surround him inspirations" should probably have "his" instead of "him."

Other than that, this poem is good. Good job.

Ishan, you just keep blowing me away with your ideas and how you put them down on paper.
This was breathtakingly true and pure, and yet so fragile and yet so strong.
Lovely.
